In spite of the fact that banners as an advertising tool are not so efficient as before (see banner blindness), many publishers still use them. That is why we recommend you to have at least 10 banners in various sizes and for various products categories.

Requirements for banners

General requirements

  • To launch a program in Admitad Affiliate, it is necessary to have banners with general information about the program without reference to seasons, brands, prices, or deals. They will be used to replace expired banners.
  • Banners must contain a logo of your program.
  • Banners must contain up-to-date information.
  • Do not provide banners for specific products because they may be sold out or the price on the banner will differ from a real one. Provide banners only for a category of products or a deal.
  • There must be no more than one banner of each size for one category or deal.
  • Banners with deals must be uploaded to the account 2-3 days before the start of the deal.
  • Banners must be in JPG, PNG, GIF, or HTML5 format.

Requirements for JPG, PNG, and GIF banners

  • The banner size (both static and dynamic) must not exceed 100 Kb;
  • The banner name must include only the banner size (without gaps) and the file extension (.swf, .jpg…).
  • We accept banners of the following size:
    120 x 600  160 x 600  200 x 200  200 x 300  240 x 400
    300 x 250  336 x 280  468 x 60   500 x 500   600 x 90   728 x 90
    as they are the most popular among publishers and the most clickable among users.

Requirements for HTML5 banners

  • The banner must be provided in .zip format;
  • The file size must not exceed 256 KB;
  • The archive must not contain more than 40 files;
  • The archive root node must contain a file named «index.html»;
  • The other files in an archive must be in .html, .css, .js, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .svg format;
  • <head> tag in a banner must contain meta tags with the information about banner size.
    For example, the banner size is 240x400, then:
    <meta name="ad.size" content="width=240,height=400" />
  • The transition link will be inserted in link1 GET parameter;
  • To make the banner clickable, you need to import the following script
    <script type="text/javascript"

    and call setURL()
    <a onclick="setURL()">text of link</a>
    or to add this element
    <a href="%link1%" target="_blank">text of link</a>
    and call
    document.addEventListener(‘DOMContentLoaded’, function(){updateAttrs();});
    or in any other way.

The transition link must be inserted in link1 GET parameter and open in a new window!

Adding banner categories

You need to create banner categories before you add banners. Categories are basically folders used to group together advertising materials that are similar in terms of content or purpose. For example, they might be organized:

  • by brands or promoted product groups: “Footwear,” “Clothing,” “Accessories”.
  • by deals and the events they’re tied to: “Prom 2018,” “Cyberweek”.
  • by geography, if your program is targeted at several regions and you plan to upload banners in different languages or with different terms depending on the region.

Categories are also helpful for publishers, who can use them to search for appropriate banners on your program’s page. For that reason, you should give the categories understandable names and classify banners as accurately as possible.

  1. To create a category, go to Tools → Banners and linksCategories and click Add new category.

2. First you need to create a basic category, which will be active indefinitely. This category cannot be disabled or hidden, but it can be renamed at any time.

2.1. Enter a category name. Please remember that publishers will see it.

2.2. Check Activity to activate the created category and make it visible and available to publishers.

3. Once you’ve created a basic category, you can start creating other categories.

3.1. Note that the With a time limit checkbox is automatically checked for all other categories. This is convenient if you want to add a category that will be active only during the period of some particular deal. Then, in the Action time field choose the start date and end date of the category’s activity and uncheck Activity. The category will be automatically activated when the period begins and hidden when it ends.

If you leave Activity checked, the start date will change to the current date, and the category will be activated immediately.

3.2.  Furthermore, when you add a category with a time limit, you need to choose a substitute category, which should be a category without a time limit. Here’s where the basic category comes in handy.

It's preferable that the substitute category contains banners of the same sizes as in the basic category. That way, when the action period of the basic category elapses and its banners are hidden, they will be replaced by similar banners from the substitute category. Otherwise, if the substitute category contains no banners of a suitable size, the publisher’s ad space will remain empty.

If there is no need for time limits, uncheck With a time limit. Then decide whether to activate the category immediately or leave it hidden for the time being.

3.3. Click Save or Save and upload, if you want to add banners to the category you’ve created immediately. Read more about this in “Adding banners” section.

The new category will appear in the general list. That’s also where you can find the number of ad materials in a category, its action time, etc.

Editing categories

Once you’ve created a category, you can:

  • rename it
  • extend or shorten it (applicable only to categories with a time limit)
  • show or hide it
    The option Hide allows you to hide a particular category’s ad materials. For example, you create a category for an upcoming deal and don’t want anyone to see its terms ahead of time. Or, conversely, if the category is already hidden and you want the banners to be visible, click Show.
  • deactivate it
    Deactivation is a kind of postponed deletion. If you use this option, the category and its banners will be hidden from publishers at the scheduled time, but traffic from it will keep coming in for about a week; then, the category and its banners will be deleted definitively.
  • delete it
    The category and its banners will be deleted immediately at the scheduled time.

You can rename the category, change its action time, or hide and show it on your own. To go to the category’s settings page, click the pencil icon in the Tools column:

Then just make the relevant changes.

To deactivate or delete the category, please contact your manager.

You should inform your manager at least 5 days before the date of deletion or deactivation. According to Admitad Affiliate’s rules, publishers should be alerted in advance so that they have time to remove ad materials from their ad spaces.

Until the scheduled date, the status of the category and its banners in the list will be Deactivating or Deleting status. Once the category gets this status, making changes and halting the deactivation/deletion process is no longer possible.

Adding banners

Once you’ve created categories, you can begin uploading banners. To do so, go to ToolsBanners and LinksList and click Add new banners.

1. Choose the category the banner belongs to.

2. If you need the user to follow not a generic affiliate link, but a link to the page of a particular product category or deal, specify the banner’s link.

2.1. To do so, first, enter the URL the user should visit in the Link field, e.g.

2.2. Then add to this the parameters from the field Transition link (ProgramProgram settingsGeneral settings).

Example: ?utm_medium=cpa&utm_source=admitad&utm_campaign=campaign&utm_content={{publisher_id}}&admitad_uid={{admitad_uid}

2.3. A link looks like this when it’s ready:{{publisher_id}}&admitad_uid={{admitad_uid}}
BUT: if the URL of the landing page already contains a question mark (?), make sure to replace the question mark at the beginning of the parameters list with an ampersand (&).

The result:{{admitad_uid}}

3. In the Access rights section, you can choose who will have access to the uploaded materials. You can grant access to the members of particular channels or groups (if you have any) or to particular publishers.

You can also specify the regions for which particular ad material is intended. This is relevant if you upload banners in different languages or with deals active only in particular regions. Publishers will thus be able to use filters to find banners in the required language or with active deals.

By default, the banner is designated for all publishers and all regions.

4. Click Continue and you will be forwarded to the page where you can add banners. You can upload banners one by one or add an entire group at once. Note that banner sizes must meet the requirements; if they don’t, you’ll see the error message “Invalid banner size.”.

If banners are successfully uploaded, you will see their thumbnail pictures below.

If you decide at this stage to change a banner’s name or category or add a special link, click the corresponding field and make changes.

5. Click Save and the banner will be added with Active status. This means it will be visible to all publishers on the program’s page.

Editing banners

To edit a banner, proceed to the list of ad materials and click the button indicated below.

You will be forwarded to the banner’s editing page, where you can:

  • change a banner’s name, its category, its geo-targeting
  • specify a new link
  • restrict or extend access rights to publishers
  • and even change the picture itself.

You can also hide the banner. Its status will be Hidden and it will become invisible to users.

If you need to change links for several banners at once, the most convenient way is to perform a group edit. To do so, check the appropriate banners in the list, choose the action, and click Apply.

Enter the new link to be applied to these banners.

To deactivate or delete the banner, please contact the manager.

Uploading banners via your manager

If it is your account manager who uploads the banners:

  • provide your manager with the banners 3 to 5 days before they should be added to the system;
  • all banners should meet the requirements;
  • for each banner, the following information should be specified:
    • the categories the banners are to be added to;
    • the action time of the banners, if they have time limits;
    • the regions each banner is designated for;
    • the name of the group, the channel, and the publisher’s login, if the banner was created especially for particular publishers.

Reports on banners

Reports on banners will help you to monitor the efficiency of your banners.

Bear in mind that the reports contain information not only about banners but also about a standard affiliate link and coupons.

The most important parameter when estimating the banner efficiency is the number of confirmed actions because it shows the banner profitability for your program.

The next important indicator is CTR, the ratio of the number of clicks to the number of impressions. If nobody clicks on the banner, it means that it has no interest for users and should be replaced.

Also, you can look at eCPM, the indicator of the banner profitability that is calculated by the formula "Actions (Confirmed+Opened) /Impressions×1,000".
